Modern on the Lake

This large family house takes advantage of Lake Monona and Capitol Dome views though oversized windows and door.  Because the lake views face west, deep porticoes create outdoor living spaces that also help shield the house from intense heat of the summer sun.  The architecture of the house references classic proportions with a nod to Tudor style.  Painted all white,  subtle differences in texture between stucco, brick, and nickel gap siding reveal themselves as you approach the front door.  The lake level walkout is a near full story higher than the driveway approach.  One goal was to make the house not read like a three-story house from the street.  Upstairs bedrooms all face the lake and are appear as dormer windows instead of a full story.  The basement recreation rooms enjoy ample daylight via large light wells.  The project also included remodeling an historic boat house to reflect the style of the new home.
